10 Unique gal-entine ideas

Valentine’s day is fast approaching and regardless of your relationship status, you’re probably starting to notice the festive decor promoting love everywhere you look. We want to encourage you to celebrate all forms of love during this season –including a special focus on your friendships. Female friendship has long been studied for both its longevity and intensity. Our connection to other women is so meaningful that it has been linked to everything from happiness to the ability to better heal from extreme illness.[1] In honor of female friendship, here are 10 fun ideas to celebrate your own Gal-entines day!

Pajama party

Go retro and host a slumber party with some of your favorite movies from high school. Paint each others nails, order pizza, and tell secrets. If you want to take it from casual to glam, you can opt to rent out a fancy airbnb to change the scenery.

Road trip with power songs

Build your own playlist of your favorite power anthems, buy some of your favorite snacks, and enjoy a long scenic drive to your favorite tunes. Nostalgic songs release a particularly high amount of dopamine which will add to your bonding and overall happiness.[2]

Spa day

Need a break from the daily stress of life? Schedule a spa visit with your amiga, indulge in some facials or a soothing aromatherapy treatment. Right now is a good time to find deals on couples’ massages so you can enjoy some healing and relaxation together.[3]

Wine tasting

Find a local winery, get dressed up and enjoy some wine tasting! If you want to go extravagant you can all pitch in to rent a wine tour limo or bus to take you around. If you and your friends are more low-key, you can all just commit to bringing a bottle of your favorite wine and mimic the experience in the comfort of your own home.

Skype call for long-distance marathoning

Are you and your closest friends navigating the pain of long distance? Set up a skype date so you can all have an opportunity to hang out. Pick your favorite movie and agree to skype and watch the movie together. Even the simple act of facetiming to catch up will do wonders for your mood and reconnect you to your friends.

At home spa

Agree to all bring your favorite self-care products and a robe/slippers, light some candles and try a group spa experience at home. Top the event off with some champagne and nice charcuterie plate.

Plan a hike and picnic

Are you and your bffs athletic? Plan time for an outdoor hike and end it with a beautiful view and a picnic. If it’s cold enough, make a plan for snowboarding followed by some hot cocoa. If you both hate the cold, try a new workout class together (maybe an aerial conditioning class or some relaxing bikram).

Wine & Painting

There are a ton of wine and painting classes out there which could be fun in a group. If they’re all booked, there’s no reason you can’t do the same thing at home – whip out some paint and enjoy getting creative in your pajamas.

Get dressed up and cheer each other on at the karaoke bar! Pair up to sing love songs or rent a private room if you’re a shyer group.
